In March, IPAF launched this year’s global safety campaign, “Stop Overturns!” – a crucial initiative that aims to raise awareness and reduce the risk of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP) overturns.

MEWP overturn incidents often result in serious injuries or fatalities. Instability leading to overturn is commonly among the top four causes of lost time incidents (LTIs) annually, according to global data.

MEWP overturns typically occur during setup, travel, or operation on inadequate or unsuitable ground or floor conditions. They can also occur while moving MEWPs across unsuitable terrain in either the elevated or stowed positions.

I want to emphasize that we’re not just launching a Global Safety campaign; we’re reaching out to the individuals on the front lines of safety every day—the managers and supervisors responsible for executing planning and training. This includes Powered Access operators and rescue personnel. Our goal is to equip them with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate their work environments safely and confidently. By ensuring this campaign resonates with those directly involved in powered access, we are taking a significant step toward reducing and preventing overturns.
